~Flashback~
"I already told you, Squall. I'm going with you whether you like it or not." Rinoa said calmly first, sighing as she opened the large case on the bed that held her knights shimering blade. The weapon that hadn't been used in over 2 years. The same weapon that she thought he was never going to have to lift again.
"No you're not." Squall Leonhart said briefly without much emotion. She knew he was screaming at her in his thoughts.
"Too bad." She then took the gunblade from the comfort of its home and ran out of the house settled within the midst of Winnhill that they had lived in together after the madness of their previous endeavor. Unexspecting her sudden break for it, Squall made a delayed attempt to chase her, making it outside seconds after his raven haired hand full. She was in the drivers seat of the luxerous black convertable already with a big mischievous smirk on her face. "The war ain't waiting for you, hun. Might wanna get some pants on" She winked at him, knowing he was'nt going to fight her from this point.
Squall rolled his eyes and turned back toward the house. "And it's not ending until I get in there. Are you even going to wait long enough for me to get my pants on?" He turned his head just so he could keep one eye on her.
"Depends how long you take." She stuck her toung out at him, knowing he was watching her. Squall faced foward and walked toward the house without answering her. "Oh yeah. Squally?" She called out to him before he retreated inside.
"Yeah?" He grunted in question.
"I packed my things already. Just look under the bed." Another smirked made its way across her lips. Squall turned to her, about to object. "And as for the things I found under there, Mr. Leonhart." She interupted with something off topic before he could say anything. It worked. Squall stopped dead in his tracks, ready to defend himself.
"You know those things are hard to come by these days, Rin. I was just saving them for Irvine." He couldn't lie to her like that and Rinoa knew for a fact Squall's not into naughty things like that so she believed him. She pretended not to for the sake of her success though.
"You're seeing him today so why didn't you pack them? Hmm?" She pushed him, leaning out the open window for better effect. It was hard to shake Squall though so she didn't bother trying too hard.
"Well if someone gave me a chance to even get my pants on, let alone pack, Rinoa." He swung his arm out in frustration. She chuckled to herself.
"Just go get your pants on, Leonhart." She turned back to the wheel, trying not to laugh at him. Squall snorted and walked inside to get his things in order before the trip to Balamb Garden for the first time in a few years. After a good 10 minutes of passing time by tapping on the dashboard, Squall had finally walked outside in his SeeD uniform. The same one he wore when they had first met. Rinoa's period of reminiscing was cut short as Squall slammed passenger side door closed after getting in.
"You're not going to insist to drive this time? Shock." Rinoa rolled her eyes as she started up the car.
"Nope. So good luck driving all the way to Balamb without my direction." Squall leaned back in his seat and crossed his arms, hiding a smirk on his face. Rinoa looked to him as he looked at her. the smirk off her face instantly erased from her lips. Seemed she was losing, not winning.
"Damn it, Squall! Why do you have to be such a jerk?" She yelled at him, pounding her fist on the car horn unintentionally. The sound made her jump suddenly, making Squall laugh. The sound he made was just so refreshing. So rare in moments of tension such as the one they were about to face. Like the instances they had faced. Was this ever going to end? Were her and Squall ever going to see peace?
"Rin?" He asked her, concerned suddenly. That was also rare back in the day. Rinoa wondered if this is the last time she'd see the real Squall. The one that actually showed his feelings, if only just a little.
"I'm fine." She snapped out of it to smile warmly at him. His body was leaned slightly toward her so she took that oppertunity to steal a brief kiss from him. "You can drive...but I'm still coming." She whispered softly as backed away from him. He nodded, but only because chances were that his mind was in another place now. She could manipulate him so well. The two switched seats and soon enough were on there way to Balamb.
Rinoa hopped out of the car and straight into the arms of her two best friends, Quistis and Selphie. As they babbled on with random girl talk, Squall walked up to greet his comrades, Zell and Irvine.
"I knew she'd convince you into coming." Irvine started with a smirk. "Ok, but spill. It's been TWO years since we've even heard from you both. You've been busy. Just say it!" And that was Irvine being Irvine for you. Squall rolled his eyes.
"Did you get an invitation to the wedding?" He asked as he crossed his arms.
"What? No!"
"Exactly. Now excuse me, I have an army to command." Squall said coldly as he pushed passed his closest friends. Rinoa noticed this and feared that Squall was begining to prepare for the battle by cutting himself from the ones closest to him like he had been doing years ago.
"So it's come to this..." Squall began the group approached Ultimecia's Castle, just as they had two years ago. Rinoa held onto his arm fearfully. "You're staying out here with the rest of the standby team." He told her coldly, seeming as if he didn't even care that he was leaving her out here while he went to fight the war he said she could fight with him.
"Squall! You said..."
"I said you could fight, but I didn't say where or when. So you're fighting after I give you're squad the ok." He interupted her.
"That isn't fair, Squall! I want to be with you!" Rinoa protested as two SeeD mercenaries came to hold her back.
"I'm sorry. This is the way it has to be though." And then Squall left with the rest of the friends that she would of like to of been with for this as well. Rinoa just watched as she did nothing to tell him otherwise.
Minutes passed.
Then hours.
Then Rinoa had enough. The standby team had lost putting there attension on her to watch the radio for their cue to storm the place. She took that chance to sneak away and asend the castle. She knew it was probably too late but she had to atleast attempt something to save them. When she had made it to the very top and into Ultimecia's throne room she took a moment to ascess the situation before her. Everyone was unconcious, save for Squall, who was beat up from the battle. To her surprise, Ultimecia was also in the same state. That was it. Now she can stop all this and prove to Squall her worth and how wrong he was to leave her outside. Knowing her Pinwheel would do nothing against the evil sorceress, she picked up Irvine's rifle that was quite a few yards from his body. She took no more seconds to ponder why that was and took that precious time to focus on her aim. She allmost had it too.
"Rinoa!!" Squall exclaimed just as she pulled the trigger. Ultimecia looked at Rinoa, the bullet zooming just passed her head.
"Hyne damn it, Squall..." Rinoa muttered under her breath, trying to find another good shot before the target decided to move.
"Foolish girl." Was all Ultimecia said as she held her hand up toward her and charged up some kind of spell.
"No!" Squall roared as he thrusted his gunblade straight through her from behind. He then ran toward Rinoa without bothering to even pull his weapon out of the witch.
But it was too late. The spell was cast and it connected without any kind of struggle.
Before Rinoa had even knew what was going on, she awoke. "Whoa..." She sat up, holding her head that was throbbing with pain. She didn't open her eyes due to this pain. "What a fricking dream!" She yelled out hoping Squall would awake and answer her. But there was nothing. "Squall!" The only reason she wanted him up so bad was that quite honestly, she was frightend by what had happend in her, what she thought was, a dream. Again there was no answer. She went to kick him, thinking she was in bed with him but she couldn't of been more wrong. She finally opened her eyes to look around her.
She was...on a beach...? Near some mountains...She thought she was on the shores native to Balamb so she looked around for anyone she knew. The place was deserted. What was going on? She didn't remember anything that would have lead her HERE. SHe shrugged it off though. Squall or whoever brought her here would come back for her so she didn't panic just yet. Instead she just relaxed on the shore casually, thinking nothing of the dream now.
"I already told you, Squall. I'm going with you whether you like it or not." Rinoa said calmly first, sighing as she opened the large case on the bed that held her knights shimering blade.
