I don't remember much from before this, before I woke up among the rubble and the ruin. It's been three days and nights now, and the rain doesn't seem to be letting up any time soon. All I do remember is falling. Falling through darkness and then light, and then this voice telling me that things would be alright. It sounded familiar and at the same time, I was sure I was listening to a stranger.
Her words do nothing to bring me comfort as the chill and damp try to creep into my body..
Looking around the damaged room Noctis takes in a view that does nothing to lighten his mood. The peeling wallpaper, the shattered chandelier on the floor not far from where he sits huddled next to a meager and dying fire. The bodies of soldiers dressed in a dull colored armor run through with a softly glowing blue light. It is all just a stark reminder that he is a stranger in a strange place.
"I still don't know why they attacked me." he thought aloud. Breathing steadily to regain his composure, Noctis shifted his seat to find a bit of comfort as he checked on the minor scrapes and cuts he received from this recent fight. "I really should keep moving. More soldiers might be close by." he thought to himself this time. After reassuring himself that his injuries were not life threatening, Nocits arose and dusted the dirt from his pants. The storm outside dropped sheets of heavy rain on the battered roof above, and some of that turned into a streams that flowed into the building in odd places.
Stepping through one such stream as he moved forward, Noctis reached with his left hand, taking up the Engine Sword that he had previously rested there. It's tip scraped the wooden planks for the floor but for a moment as he lifted the heavy blade easily into the air and bringing it down to rest on his shoulder. As he moved through the house, careful not to step on any broken or cracked flooring, a sound from outside froze him dead in his tracks. A sound of tires coming to a screeching halt, and of people running and shouting, possibly taking up positions around the house. His suspicions were soon justified as a voce came to life over a loudspeaker outside.
What sounded like a man call out "This is Commander Trowel of the newly revived Deepground army! We have the building surrounded, come out with your hands in the air and prepare to surrender yourself to our custody! You have 10 seconds to comply!" Noctis looked through a break in the wall beside him, careful not to expose himself to the light that was shining through from the outside. It seems that several spotlights were pointed at the building from the top of what appeared to be two lightly armored personnel carriers. Unsure of what to do next, Noctis tried to come up with a plan, but it seems that fate had other things in store for him. "Open fire!" came the voice over the loudspeaker again, and from the shadows of the lights in front of him came another of those glowing armor clad soldiers from before, except as this one came into view, they hefted a large cannon like weapon to their shoulder and fired. The missile that launched from the weapon streaked right at the wall where Noctis was hiding behind, almost like they knew he was there all along. The explosion that rocked the building nearly took the ruined structure down completely, shattering the remnants and expelling dust and debris over many yards.
The rain served to stifle the dust and the smoke rather quickly, displaying for the expectant soldiers the scene of devastation before them. But in the place where nothing should now be, stood a shining tower shield, gleaming in the beams of the twin search lights from the trucks. "What the?! Open fire, fire everything!" called out the commander, and his subordinates obliged, bearing down on the silver shield with automatic weapons fire and even another barrage from the rocket launcher. As quickly as it began, the chaos was over. The soldiers had expended the capacity of their weapons, confident in their display of power now took a moment to reload their weapons. To their amazement, as the smoke and the dust cleared again, there stood this massive shield.
All was silent now, except for the sound of rain falling against the metal of the shield, but there was no movement from or behind it. Regaining their composure, several soldiers rushed forward, their weapons brought to bear and surrounded the object, and in a moment of bravery stepped around it to fire at it's wielder, only to find that spot unoccupied. "He's gone..!" called back one of them, but the rest of his words were cut off by the sound of something much louder. Having watched and waited from the roof next door, Noctis counted himself fortunate that he was able to warp away to this location, just before the explosion went off. Twirling the engine blade in his right hand, Noctis waited until the second barrage was over, tossing his weapon up and warping to catch it mid air. He was now several stories above his attackers and falling swiftly down.
As he did he called on the Royal Arms again, this time changing his one-handed sword out for a massive two-handed weapon known as the Mace of the Fierce, and brought it crashing down with all his strength and momentum, not to mention the considerable weight of the heavy weapon itself on the nearest troop transport. The force of the blow shook the ground and crumpled the vehicle, folding it in on itself, twisting the frame into a oddly shaped V. In the confusion of the moment, Noctis swapped weapons again on the fly as he landed to his feet, this time calling forth the Star of the Rogue, a large 4-pointed shuriken, and threw it at his nearest opponents. As the weapon left his hand it split into four separate blades, striking down as many soldiers. Their bodies fell in unison to the ground, dead before they landed. Reaching out with his right hand Nocits caught the now reformed blade while on the run, closing the distance to his next opponent and calling back his Engine Sword in time to block a two-handed sword stroke from a soldier that appeared from around the wreckage of the ruined personnel carrier. They locked stares for a moment before Noctis changed tactics, letting go of the blade struggle and stepping aside, allowing the enemies momentum to carry them forward.
Stumbling the soldier tried the catch his footing, but Noctis was there, ending the glancing parry with his own blade as it came up against the sword of the falling soldier. The blades sparked and hissed with the sound of metal scrapping metal for a moment, and as the two swords parted again, the soldiers now clipping the ground, and Noctis' above him, Noctis brought his weapon down in a flash, at a sharp angle cleanly cutting the solder at the base of his neck and slicing cleanly through, killing him instantly. Regaining his guard, Noctis surveyed his immediate surroundings. The rain was as insistent as ever and it was starting to weigh down his hair. If it were not for the sturdy leather long coat he wore, he would have been soaked already. Preparing for the next attack, searching for a way to escape, Noctis knew he had to end this quickly..
