Name: Deus
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Age: Some variable of the fourth dimension.
Race: Seemingly human, although some would beg to differ...
Appearance: Deus' appearance is highly static. He loves his disguises and so too do they love him. A few captured images of him in his marvelous Venetian masks include: click, click, and click. As one might suspect, he is highly obsessive over hygiene and his looks in general. He doesn't take kindly to insults targeting what he looks like... not that he takes kindly to insults in general. He has been known to slaughter innocents who merely look him in the eye. He sees it as an insult, almost as if the offender is actually insinuating that they are on equal footing. A brief image of him in slightly more casual attire and sans the mask can be seen here. He stands at an imposing six foot two and god knows if anyone could try and weigh him...
Personality: Deus is the classic megalomaniac: he believes himself to be far beyond all of his contemporaries, good or evil. His God complex has almost developed into an obsession, influencing him to seek out the most powerful "entity" in the world -- the Lifestream -- in an attempt to merge with it. Thus far, his endeavors have proved unsuccessful, but one never knows... On more than one occasion, he has proved that much of his hubris is well-earned. He is a ruthless fighter, employing tactics that a well-aligned individual would find repulsive. To him, lives are much like tools, and he uses them as he sees fit to achieve his goals.
Abilities: Deus harbors some control over darkness, to the extent that he can conjure it and use it as for physical assaults. He usually does this in the form of shadow-based orbs or blasts, but can also personify his manipulation of darkness as tendrils or smoke to cover himself. Besides his potency with that particular "element," he also shows some ability to utilize the spell Demi in combat. Of course, he is unable to do anything on the level of physically crushing his opponents with gravity, but it would not be too much to say he could immobilize them or deal some damage using it.
Weapons: Tyrfing, a larger-than-normal longsword. Its metal structure is somewhat bluish and appears to be impervious to physical damage and rust. It exudes a purple aura that appears to be purely aesthetic in nature; Deus uses it in almost any conceivable combat situation and is quite skilled with it, too. Many-a-foe he has eviscerated with his cursed blade.
History: Deus' origins are unclear. One might think they were humble, and he refuses to speak about it to any of the handful of people he has encountered more than once without resorting to violence. He has once or twice mentioned his parents and how disassociated with them he is and has gone on to say that he was the subject of much abuse, verbal and physical, from both of them. he hasn't spoken to either of them in years and has no intention of making contact anytime in the near or far future.
Throughout ShinRa's swan song, Deus was briefly glorified as being close to a promotion to 1st Class. However, after the megacorporation's collapse at the hands of AVALANCHE, he was refused his rightful position and fled into the wilderness. He evaded made no contact with Cloud's party, but rumor has it he observed them at several pivotal points. It is clear he would prove a powerful opponent, possibly on par with Cloud if given the right opportunity. Deus, whose name has connotations with a deity of some ancient religion, was stunned to hear of Sephiroth's eventual defeat and found himself wishing he had been there to intervene.
It is his solid belief that had he absorbed Sephiroth's waning power in those final moments, he could have easily vanquished Cloud's motley group of intrepid young adventurers and claimed the mantle of "god" that he feels he deserves.
