Name: Experiment 19 (Nina)
Alignment/Affiliation: N/A
Age: ?? (Appears to be no older than 22)
Race: Human Experiment
Appearance: Standing at a model height of 5'10 and weighing no more than 156 lbs., Nina's physique is very feminine, slim and slender. The skin on her frame is fair, smooth and free of marks or blemishes. There are no birthmarks, not even a freckle. In contrast with her pale skin, Nina's hair is a deep, dark ebony. Long and straight, it flows past her shoulders down to her waist. But her more defining features of beauty, like her smooth facial features and slender appendages, add the most to her overall haunting appearance. Beset in her face are two very bright mako-green eyes, obviously a sign of tampering.
Personality:Being a clone, Nina's personality is an almost exact model copy of her DNA donor. Confident, determined, a bit playful. Her outlook is very positive, despite the strange circumstances surrounding her creation. She has a kind side, sweet in nature. But every living being is capable of hate, frustration, revenge, sorrow, bitterness... Nina is no exception. Though her capacity for these emotions have yet to be tested, Hojo felt concerned that they should never be. One can only wonder why.
But having been left "unfinished", Nina's knowledge of the world is very limited. This leaves her curious about many things, childlike in a way. She also, as a result, is fairly trusting to anyone. With Hojo in particular, Nina is incredibly loyal, an almost "Mother bird" effect, being her creator. Her desire to please her loved ones and improve herself is fueled by undying determination. She will not stop at a goal simply because she fails the first time. It only means to try harder the second time, try and try again, even at the face of death.
Abilities: Nina's combat style is optimized to her frame. She is agile and speedy, relying on dexterity rather than strength and the ability to endure attacks, heavy or relentless. Along with this is her skill to be stealthy, adept at hiding and moving quietly when the need arises. But comparing with her strengths, her weaknesses are heavy hits, and well placed or many attacks in succession. This can be a serious problem, especially since her strengths require that she wear lightweight protection. But Nina aims to move as fluidly and quickly as she can to avoid it.
But Nina's defining feature, her most unique ability, is her telepathy. Obviously not a natural ability, Hojo infused a unique materia discovered some time in 1997 with Nina's body. It's ability began to show through when Nina showed great empathy and could hear thoughts, see memories. Of course the ability is extremely limited. More intense connections cause her great pain and blackouts, even duration can be a cause. Nina cannot force the ability, it comes and goes freely.
Her manner of attack is paired with her agility, striking quickly and in damaging places. Each move is careful and when given the opportunity, precise. Nina's main goal is to strike every weak point she can get at to bring down an opponent, hopefully in as few hits as possible while avoiding being hit in the process. Her extensive training with Hojo in the labs have developed this style and strategy she keeps in mind. Her body isn't well suited for heavy endurance, or powerful strength, Hojo would tell her, so she aimed for what she was best fit.
Weapons: Two Katars are Nina's special weapons. The Katars are two identical hand-held blades that are unique for their use and style. This deadly set was created exclusively by Hojo, when formulating ideas on what his project's choice of weaponry would be. There are two blades on each base, encasing a hidden blade inside meant to puncture and twist armor or flesh.
History/Background:
In 1997, during the events surrounding AVALANCHE and ShinRa, the lead scientist of ShinRa Co., Hojo had been brought a strange misty gray materia for study by the archaeologist who unearthed it. The orb was found deep in the ruins of the Forgotten Capital, in a shell case and covered with silk. Upon studying the materia, Hojo first deemed it useless, it's initial testing showed no magical effects like others. A dud, he thought, until one day when fusing it into his arm to test it, he began hearing the thoughts of a nearby assistant. Convinced he wasn't going mad, he removed the materia but did not report the incident to the President as he should.
Instead, Hojo used it over a few times to make sure. He even found that it had not only Telepathic, but Telekinetic abilities as well. Though the telekinetic power seemed far too weak for any real use, it barely moved a pencil. And the risk to himself was far too high, it had cost him a trip to the infirmary with intense cranial pain and nose bleeding. It was then that Hojo decided to try testing the unique materia on a human subject. He had already in mind to create a clone bodyguard, the DNA donor being a good specimen, what with her high tolerance to Mako...
So Project IX was born. She grew quickly, perfectly. Most clones prior to her make had many troubles during growth, such as deformation or health issues. IX was an exact copy of beauty as her donor, all the better to deceive people. When fully grown, Hojo immediately infused the "Psion Materia", as he dubbed it, with IX's body. The process went well, as well as the Mako infusions. Her body took all of it just fine, no issues as Hojo had hoped for.
IX came to live, but only in the restricted confines of the labs. She was curious of course, but patient and obedient to her "maker". Record of her was kept sparse, Hojo didn't want the President to interfere. After all, what could a child like Rufus understand of the mass world of science...? Hojo had IX trained in combat, pit her up against machines, humans and monsters. She seemed to enjoy her success in fighting every opponent, as if eager to please, or the very idea of her success was her own reward. With her growing progress, Hojo finally gave IX a real name. Rather unthoughtful, but a real name regardless... Nina. This Nina showed a great deal of loyalty and admiration for Hojo, a slight surprise, but it seemed a good aspect of her nature.
Nina was eventually moved, however, to avoid detection by the new President or anyone else who would ruin Hojo's work. He chose the more remote and secure facility within the basement of old ShinRa mansion. Shunned by the President (and surprisingly not burned down at the time), ShinRa mansion seemed the perfect, quiet place to finish his research. Unfortunately, the troublesome AVALANCHE were becoming more and more of a problem. Hojo finally decided he could not ignore them any longer, something had to be done. But his project would have to wait.
Hojo left Nina in stasis, a peaceful and supported sleep within a hidden room in the basement. She questioned where he was going, of course, but all that was said was a promise to return. But with the fall of the mad scientist, Nina was forgotten. All records of her anywhere else were either cleverly hidden or wiped completely. Still, to this very day, a few years after Hojo's death, she waits. She sleeps... Still believing that promise made.
But who will come?

There... Something was there. She could sense it, feel the presence. She wasn't alone, no. But who was there? Nina could not see, she was still asleep. But the approaching presence she could still notice. Her eyes wanted to finally open... Not yet. The screen beside the tank began to flicker strangely, switching automatically to display Nina's status. It seemed her heartbeat, at first very calm and slow began to rise. The flickering of the screen continued as Vincent would near the tank. But he most likely wouldn't notice that the glass, particularly in corners and curves began to crack ever so slightly... He would raise his weapon and aim.
As the shot fired, Nina's eyes opened. Only for a moment of course, she was in too much of a haze to understand what was going on. They closed again as the glass lost integrity, it shattered outward and with a rush of water. It was all so sudden, so fast. Nina slumped to the base of the tank while water and glass thinly covered the floor outside. Her body was weak from staying dormant so long, but she was alive. And then, like a delayed reaction of shock, Nina's eyes shot open and she curled forward, coughing up water. She began to breathe. Her skin began to feel the cold air of the secluded basement, no longer kept warm by the tank and it's life sustaining systems. After all, what good did something no better than a bathing suit do? From this she began to shiver, the shock still having it's hold over her mind.
Nina lay there, curled on her side at the base of the tank, water still dripping onto the floor. Her breathing began to relax, her chest no longer heaving for air. The woman's eyes fluttered for a few moments, adjusting to the strange lighting of the room. A strange electrical sound helped to wake her from her haze, the sound of the computer beside the tank malfunctioning and suddenly turning off. Nina's fingers flexed as her eyes struggled to stay open, until finally she adjusted. Her head turned a little, her gaze fixing on the red clad figure a little ways in front of her.
Her eyes showed curiosity, as if reality hadn't quite settled in yet. But it would, soon. Memories came like a flood of water, the process hurt some, causing her eyes to flicker with a wince. But when it all settled to the bottom of her mind, Nina tried to push herself upward, still looking at Vincent. Now she started to feel wary of him, not recognizing who he was. He certainly wasn't Hojo... Hojo. Where was he? Nina wondered immediately why he wasn't there, who was this strange figure before her? Her hands flat on the metal grating, using all her strength for the moment to rise, Nina pushed herself up into a standing position. Her legs wobbled a little, still regaining strength.
But she felt weak still, using the remains of the tank's frame to steady her body. Nina watched Vincent, this unfamiliar face that seemed to have woken her. She shivered all the while, the cold becoming bitter to her skin. With some mumbling, Nina attempted to speak.
"...W-who are... You...?"
That was just one of many questions she had. But of course, nothing could be done all at once.
